If you'd like to forward a domain that you have to a different domain or subdomain, one way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is forwarded to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the website that you've created, but it'll also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the visitors from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a tough task to people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every Linux semi-dedicated hosting service which we offer, is very easy to use. If you'd like to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you have to do will be to select the domain or subdomain you need, select the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then input the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is quite easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be fully active and within several hours it is going to propagate worldwide. If you are not sure what you have to do, we've prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial concerning how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located in that same section of Hepsia. Naturally, you can also get in touch with us for help anytime.
